Ok, that’s a 6+1 Word Saturday. I bent the rules a little. I’ve tried for a week to make it just six words, but couldn’t seem to manage it. I also thought of “Let Sleeping Ducks Lie,” a riff on the English idiom of “Let Sleeping Dogs Lie,” but that was only 4 words, so I figured that 6+1 words was at least closer.

These are two mallard ducks, female and male. Other than the Muscovy duck (the ubiquitous white duck), almost all domestic ducks are descended from the Mallard (Anus platyrhynchos). Yes, I absolutely had to look up the Latin classification. And I also didn’t originally know that the mallard was the second oldest breed of domestic duck. Isn’t the computer a wonderful font of knowledge?
They are standing on the mechanism for the fountain in our city’s natural lake.
Maybe these mallards are having a restful Saturday. I hope you do too!
Great capture of the dozy pair. Your sleeping ducks lie was a great idea, but six can be a challenge. I usually prefer to start with shorter and then just add something. “Where sleeping ducks lie (dogs banned)” maybe 🙂
Oh that’s a great idea Debbie. Thanks!
Just leave out ‘rest’? 🙂 🙂
Of course! I was so focused on the fact that they were sleeping with their heads tucked into their wings. Thanks! 😀
Oh how cute. Lovely shot. “Hen and drake in restful slumber”
Yes, that would absolutely work! But I was also trying to keep the rhyme. 🙂
