Rain

Improbable beauty.
Improbable beauty.

I found these flowers flourishing in some scant dirt wedged between a wall and the sidewalk. They are a particularly hearty breed; they need only a moderate amount of sun, and seem to thrive with limited amounts of water. But we have had hardly any rain this winter, and after years of very little rain, are now in the midst of a severe drought.

But this evening, after days of low, dark roiling clouds and predicted rain, but no actual rainfall, I heard some drops falling. Not hard, and not many, but some. And I am grateful.

And there is even the possibility of some more rainfall tomorrow.
